Australian summers are what its all about, the kids are off from school and the weather is beautiful. If you are starting to feel the itch of wasting your summer watching Netflix you might be in need of some outdoor fun. Here’s some of our favourite summer activities that you can do from the comfort of your own backyard!
A classic Aussie activity, the slip n slide provides hours of fun with just a tarp, some detergent, and a hose. A slip n slide can fit in any backyard and can provide hours of fun. It’s a good way to cool down on a hot summer day and is fun for people of any age. Try to avoid any accidents by staying away from concrete or fences, a plaster cast all summer won’t be as fun!
Another fun activity is taking the kids camping in the backyard. COVID is making travelling a bit more difficult than it has been in the past, and many parents have opted to stay home this summer to avoid quarantine. Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you can’t have fun though! Pitching a tent in the back yard and having a BBQ will make you feel like you’re camping, and you have the convenience of being able to go inside to your comfy bed when the air mattress inevitably deflates half way through the night.
There’s nothing like a home grown meal, veggie patches can be a lot of work to set up but are so worth it when it comes time for your first harvest. You could be planting seeds such as cucumbers, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes, these will thrive in the warmer weather but still require plenty of water and love.
Our last activity suggestion to keep yourself entertained this summer is tie dying some old clothes. This is a great activity as it is tons of fun while you are doing it and it has the pay off of a cool new shirt at the end. Make sure you do this in an area of the backyard where the chemicals used in your dye won’t hurt your landscaping!
